If you do lots of experimenting with whip type antennas, here is an idea for a unique, simple and inexpensive method for mounting them!
The Simpson Strong Tie "T" (aka hurricane connector) runs less than $5 at Home Depot or Lowes and already comes with two 1/2" holes predrilled. Just bend (or use as is for horizontal dipole) and install CB 3/8" connectors and go!

There an issue of using YAESU "FT857d" transceiver CAT control in conjunction with the YAESU antenna tuner "FC40". It controlled through the CAT. Thus it is not possible to use the CAT together (example with E-LOGBOOK or other devices) through the same CAT Port.
While developing "FT857d" transceiver the YAESU engineers have envisaged a baypass for this problem by additional CAT port via the microphone...
