This repair valid for APPLE MBP “MagSafe Power Adapter with “L-Type” Power Plug
This problem happens quite often, for APPLE “Mac Book Pro” users. In some cases the power supply plug is broken.
I fixed this problem myself (See pictures below). But, first some introduction how’s plug looking inside:
Now time to repair.
Note: Be careful during the dissembling a plug.
Finally I’ve repaired my Power “L-Type” plug and everything working fine. The problem was in the broken wire inside.
Hmm … I have repaired follow to Instruction and all is OK.
Didn’t work for me either. The inner plug on later models (after 2012) is bedded in epoxy and cant be removed without destroying it.
Did work for me. Got a 2009 charger that wasn’t epoxy’d down. There was a load of glue (not epoxy, but a different type) on the top side (the ‘head’, not the tail where the cable enters) all around it, but that was pretty easy to scrape away. After fix, it was a bit hard to make sure the ferrous head was aligned properly as one of the guiding pins had bent a bit, but it worked anyway.
Thanks! It worked for me on a 2010 macbook supply. Just knowing you can pull off that first casing and slide the connector to the left would have saved me hours of hair-pulling!
On mine, the sheilding wires had torn away, so it was a simple case of soldering in a bridge of mutli-strand wire.
Thank you, but I have one important question. Why have not you come up with a form or tool that will prevent cable failure due to tightness?
The more I see about Mac the more I dislike Hardware Lock-in…
My Hackintosh works ok.
My PC works ok
My friend’s mac works ok until the moment it needs maintenance… every little maintenance it needs he has to send it back to the warranty and it costs a lot
Thank you so much!! it really works
It didn’t work for me. The plug’s PCB was glued tight to the head. When I tried to loosen it the way described, it broke in two, because the back side was still glued (and unreachable). Too bad, have to buy a new one. It seems that the author had some luck, in his case it clearly wasn’t glued that tight.
