The Geochron Atlas Pro 4K is a compact HDMI box with an integrated mini-PC that displays a dynamic world map with real-time data on a 4K screen. In addition to the current day/night terminator of the Earth, numerous data layers from areas such as weather, aviation, satellites, environmental monitoring and amateur radio can be displayed.
The visualization of the Earth’s surface including the current day/night boundary is particularly interesting for amateur radio operators. Along this so-called greyline, shortwave propagation conditions can often be especially favorable. The Geochron Atlas displays the position of this boundary with high time accuracy and also takes seasonal variations into account.
Once connected to a 4K monitor or television, the system generates a continuously updated view of the Earth. Moving weather systems, aviation traffic, satellite positions and other geographical information are visualized directly on the world map and can be enabled or disabled as individual layers. According to the manufacturer, the Atlas Pro supports up to 85 interactive data layers.
The visualization is based on several mapsets, including geopolitical world maps with different points of interest as well as a topographical “view from space”. In addition, a dedicated amateur radio mapset with CQ and ITU zones is available as a basis for radio-related data layers.
The system includes a compact HDMI box with an integrated map engine that connects directly to a monitor or television. Operation is performed using the supplied remote control or a mobile app. An internet connection is required for displaying live data.
Several live data layers are already included, such as weather information, satellite tracking, aviation traffic and the current position of the International Space Station. These datasets are updated regularly and visualized directly on the world map.
The Atlas Pro also supports numerous additional premium layers. These extended datasets are provided via optional subscriptions and include topics such as environmental and geoscience data, advanced weather layers or specialized packages for amateur radio.
For amateur radio operators, the manufacturer offers an optional Ham Radio Bundle. This package includes several radio-related premium layers such as DX Cluster spots, Reverse Beacon Network activity, FT8 activity maps, propagation information and other amateur radio data displayed directly on the world map.
The Geochron Atlas Pro 4K therefore serves both as a visual world time and global data display as well as a dynamic mapping and information system that makes worldwide activity visible in real time.
