The ACOM 1003 is a compact, fully featured HF linear amplifier covering all amateur radio bands from 160 m to 6 m. Delivering up to 1000 W PEP output power with only 50–80 W of drive power, it is ideally suited for use with modern transceivers – without the need for complex adjustments or special interfaces.
Simple and precise tuning
A key feature of the ACOM 1003 is its straightforward yet precise tuning process. The proprietary “True Resistance Indicator” (TRI) assists the operator in accurately setting the load impedance using a clear bar-graph display. Combined with the front-panel input attenuator, the amplifier can be tuned quickly and reproducibly without constant readjustment of the transceiver.
No external antenna tuner required in many cases
In many situations, an external antenna tuner is not required: the amplifier can match antennas with an SWR of up to 3 directly. This simplifies station setup and reduces additional losses in the signal path.
Powerful tube technology for different operating modes
The ACOM 1003 uses a single ceramic-metal power triode type 3CX800A7 in grounded grid configuration. Depending on the operating mode, the user can select Class AB2 for maximum linearity, for example in SSB, or Class B for reduced plate dissipation in continuous duty modes such as digital operation. In addition, the output power can be reduced to 50% without compromising efficiency.
Convenient monitoring during operation
During operation, the amplifier stands out with its user-friendly design. A two-line OLED display provides information on output power, operating status, and various selectable parameters. Automatic fan control ensures efficient cooling with minimal noise.
QSK capable and transceiver-independent
For CW operation, the ACOM 1003 is QSK capable thanks to a virtually silent reed relay. Switching between transmit and receive is fast and reliable. The amplifier does not require any special control signals from the transceiver – a simple PTT signal (“Ground on TX”) and RF drive power are sufficient, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of radios.
Three antenna outputs and comprehensive protection
The amplifier features three selectable antenna outputs, conveniently switchable from the front panel. Extensive protection circuits continuously monitor all key parameters and protect both the tube and the amplifier, including integrated HF arc protection at the output.
Wide-range power supply
The integrated power supply supports a wide input voltage range from 90 to 264 V AC, allowing worldwide operation without modification.
